Principles for Intervening
Safety
Regarding the safety of adult survivors and their children as the most important priority. Respecting confidentiality as critical to safety.
Empowerment
Respecting the integrity of survivors and their authority in making their own life choices.
Advocacy
Providing the safety and information survivors need to make those life choices. Advocating on behalf of everyone impacted by domestic violence including the children. Acknowledging the need to make changes in our systems of care.
Accountability
Holding individual perpetrators accountable and taking responsibility ourselves as members of communities still struggling with the oppression and inequality that allows battering to happen.
