The statistics:

• A sexual assault occurs every 45 seconds in the U.S.
• Only 22% of sexual assault victims are assaulted by someone they have never seen before or do not know well.
• It is estimated that fewer than 50% of sexual assaults are reported.
• 84% of all sexual assaults are committed by an acquaintance of the victim.
• 57% of all sexual assaults occur during a date.
• 26% of all sexual assaults are committed by an intimate partner.
• 10% of all sexual assaults happen to males.
• 1 in 7 women will be sexually assaulted by her husband.
• Women who were sexually assaulted as adolescents are three times more likely to be victimized by a husband.
• Sexual assault is reported by 33% to 46% of women who are being physically assaulted by their husbands.
• 14% of married women report that their husbands have used physical force or threat to try to have sex with them.
